The artwork of
Jeffrey Andrade Hemming

Thank you for visiting my online gallery. This space allows me to share both past work and current projects as they take shape. I've been fortunate to create art throughout much of my life, and it's something that continues to bring me joy and purpose. Sharing it with others adds another layer of meaning, and I hope you find something here that speaks to you.

Linked to Landscape

"The magnificent beauty of the natural world is a manifestation of the mysterious natural laws that will be forever obscured from us." Albert Biersttadt

Painting the landscape endears us to the natural world. It forces us to focus on detail, color, texture. and light. This momentary relation deepens our bonds with nature and opens our hearts to the rhythms of a wild world. In portraying the land we come to understand it doesn't belong to us but we belong to it.

I find my inspiration along trails, crossing rivers, hiking ridges, and the small details in nature. I am specifically drawn to the Sierra Nevada Range for its ability to hold light and for the endless compositions to be found there. I have consistently come back to creating artwork based around environment as a way to connect myself further to the land This practice serves as a way to become more aware of my surroundings and appreciate areas I spend time in more fully. Through my art I share places and experiences both how they look and feel.

Flux & Flow

My abstract paintings delve into a system of chaos, harmony, change, technology, abundance, and waste all at once. There is a balance I find in the act of painting, a consistency that is both intriguing and complex. The process is responsive and while my paintings have a start and end point, the discovery of these points is always varied. I am influenced by a world in constant change. The condition of impermanence has a great effect on my work. I am inspired by that transient characteristic, the ability to adapt, and the fleeting need for balance.

The Tropics

I've lived portions of my life in Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Florida.

There hasn't been a day where I didn't wish to be on an island.

Charcoal & Paper

What better material to draw landscape than a few burnt pieces of wood?
